We’re the Welsh Dragonz Explorer Scout Unit and we run Explorer Scouts for young people from across Blaenau Gwent.
Explorers are a go-getting group of young people aged 14 to 18. Together, they make up the fifth section of the Scouts. Explorers meet in groups called Units that are organised at a District level.
When you join Explorers, you’ll be introduced to lots of new activities, people and things.
Being an Explorer is all about discovering the world on your own terms and making the most of what you have, wherever and whoever you are.
Alongside your new friends, you’ll master the skills that will make you feel stronger and happier in the long run, and try things you’d never get the chance to do at home or at school.
Explorers seek out the answers to the big questions, and to the smaller questions that don’t seem to matter but really should.
In Explorers there are even more ways to reach the top with a whole array of badges and awards for you to work towards.
Whether you want to master something you love, or try something new. If it stirs your interest, there’s probably a badge for it.
As an Explorer, there are more chances to reach for the top, as you’ll be introduced to a whole new range of Top Awards.
As well as developing valuable life skills, the scheme is an opportunity to make a positive impact in the community and to fulfil the service elements of many of the top awards in Scouts, or the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is an awards programme which gives young people the chance to make friends, have fun and build confidence in an empowering, exciting and non-competitive learning environment.
We know that as parents you will have lots of questions so we’ve put together a guide to answer as many as we can.
